How to Back Up iPhone

How to Back Up iPhone to iTunes

If you have iTunes installed on your computer, you can use the powerful built-in backup software to save a copy of all of your important information safely on your computer. You can then restore your Backup any time your iPhone runs into problems. If you have macOS Catalina, you can manage your Backup in Finder.

Step 1 Download and install iTunes.

If you have macOS Catalina, skip this step.

Step 2 Open iTunes and connect your iPhone to your computer.

Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable that came with it, and open iTunes.

Note: Finder and iTunes do not back up your movies, music, podcasts, or apps. If you restore your iPhone using the Backup you create, these will need to be synced again.

Click Back Up Now to begin the backup process. iTunes or Finder will start backing up your iPhone, and the backup file will be stored in your iTunes MobileSync folder. iTunes or Finder will only keep the most recent Backup for each iOS device.

The backup process will likely take a few minutes to complete.

The created backup file cannot be opened; it can only be used to restore an iPhone. If you need to find something in the iPhone backup file, you’ll need to use a backup extractor.

How to Backup iPhone to Computer Without iTunes

Apple has recently announced that it will discontinue iTunes for Mac users after being in operation for 18 years. This software is known for its extensive features, including a mobile device management utility. With iTunes being one of the most popular backup services, many users need help connecting their iPhones to their computers for Backup. If you also have a similar question, don’t worry! This article will guide you through four ways to back up your iPhone to your computer without using iTunes.

Apart from iTunes, you can back up your iPhone to iCloud, Google Drive, or through third-party applications. The backup process is direct for Finder, while the backup process to your computer is longer for the rest.

Using Finder 

Apple has replaced iTunes with Finder and introduced it as a new feature to simplify the Backup process. Unlike the complicated backup process of iTunes, Finder’s backup process is much easier to follow and understand. If you want to back up your iPhone using Finder, follow these instructions:

On iCloud

Using the same Apple ID, you can connect all your devices to the same iCloud storage, which can store various files, including photos, music, and documents. Additionally, you can use iCloud to back up your iPhone data and later import it to your Mac. To back up your data using iCloud, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Settings on your iPhone. 
  2. Select your Apple ID
  3. Go to iCloud.  
  4. Locate iCloud Backup and select it. 
  5. On the new Window, toggle on iCloud Backup, then go back to the previous Window.
  6. Toggle on the applications you want iCloud to back up.
  7. On your Mac, select Finder from the menu bar.
  8. From the sidebar, like iCloud Drive
  9. Select the folders you want on your Mac and drag and drop them to a new location.

Using Google Drive

Google Drive is an online file storage and data syncing service developed by Google. It allows you to access your data from any device that uses the same Google account. You can quickly transfer data from your iPhone to Google Drive and import it from Backupomputer. Follow these instructions to back up your iPhone to your computer using Google Drive: 

  1. Open the application for Google Drive.
  2. Select the hamburger menu on the left. 
  3. Hop on to Setting 
  4. Go to Backup.
  5. For ContactsCalendar Events, and Photos & videos, select and toggle on each. 
  6. Select Start Backup.
  7. On your computer, open your browser. And navigate 
  8. Select the folders you want to download and choose the shortcuts Shift + D.

How to Restore iPhone Backup?

If backed up on iCloud, Mac/PC, Android, or iPhone, you can quickly recover your data. However, if you have already backed up your iPhone, you must erase its contents to restore the Backup from iCloud. Follow the steps below to reset your iPhone:

  1. Tap on Settings
  2. Navigate to General Transfer or Reset iPhone
  3. Tap on Erase All Content and Settings

  1. Press and hold the power key of your iPhone to turn it on.

Restore from Mac or PC

On Mac

If your device is a Mac, follow these steps to recover your Backup on your iPhone:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac with a USB cable. 
  2. On your Mac, locate and select Finder on your menu bar.
  3. Under Locations on your left, select Backup the iPhone.
  4. Under BaBackup, identify and select Restore Backup.
  5. Choose the relevant Backup and wait for the Backup to complete.

On PC

Follow these instructions to recover your Backup data from your PC to your iPhone:

  1. Connect your devices using a USB cable. 
  2. Open the iTunes application on your PC. 
  3. On the iTunes window, select the iPhone icon on the top-left corner of your screen.
  4. Hop on to Summary and choose Restore Backup
