Method 3. Restore from A Complete iTunes Backup to A New iPhone

Applies To: Almost all data and settings

It’s essential to know that an iTunes backup includes almost all the data and settings on an iOS device, but specific exclusions apply. For example, content from iTunes and App Stores, content synced from iTunes, data already stored in iCloud, and more.

Using iTunes backup to transfer data from one iPhone to another is quite similar to using iCloud backup. To transfer data, you need to back up the old Device and restore the new phone data from the iTunes backup while setting up the new Device. Follow the steps below to transfer data to your new iPhone/iPad via iTunes:

Step 1. Connect your previous Device to the computer using a USB cable.

Step 2. Open iTunes, click the “Device” button, and select “Summary.”

Step 3. Click “Back Up Now” to start backing up your old iPhone.

Step 4. Turn on your new Device and follow the setup steps until you see the “Apps & Data” screen.

Step 5. Choose “Restore from Mac or PC” and connect your new iPhone to the computer you used to back up your old iPhone.

How to transfer data from iPhone to iPhone

Method 1. Transfer your iPhone’s data with Quick Start

  1. Ensure that both devices have sufficient battery life.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on the old iPhone and bring both devices close to each other.

  3. In the “Apps & Data” -view, select “Restore from iCloud Backup” and sign in to iCloud.
  4. Choose the backup you want to restore and wait for the backup to finish.

Method 3. Transfer data from your old iPhone with iTunes

Transferring data from an old iPhone to a new one through iTunes and your computer is possible. Ensure you are using the latest version of iTunes or any other relevant application or software. 

Similar to the second method we discussed earlier, you must have a backup of your old iPhone to use iTunes to transfer data. To use this method, reset your iPhone if it has already been set up may be necessary.

  1. Once you have backed up your old iPhone into iTunes, turn on your new iPhone and proceed with the setup process.
  2. In the “Apps & Data” -view, select “Restore from Mac or PC” and plug your iPhone into your Mac or PC with a USB cable.
  3. On your computer, open iTunes and locate your new Device in the top-left corner of the screen.

  5. Wait for the backup to finish.
